NEXWIND Summer school 2026

From OFFREN to NEXWIND, the name of the summer school has changed and the focus was this year entirely on offshore wind. The task for the students at 'Builders' was the preliminary design of an offshore wind farm in France at the best suitable location, and connected to the French grid. Students were supervised in a similar way than during the previous summer schools again. The students were working in groups of 8 or 9, allowing us to go to a little more detail in some areas and include a 'research' task about the future of offshore wind and discussing research questions related to it.

Over the 4 weeks of the summer school, the students  worked in groups and again each of them in a certain role (e.g. project manager, wind farm engineer, supply chain manager, etc.). They listened to lectures, followed hydraulic model tests on a bed-mounted and floating wind turbine, and provided their results in final reports and presentations. And again, all students showed large enthusiasm and were able to deliver excellent results in all fields of the task assignments.

justASK! went to Caen at the beginning, in the middle to join the 2nd version of the RIM conference, and the end of the summer school. In the beginning, we guided the students to understand and kick off their projects and provided lectures, at the end we assisted the evaluation of the groups and the individual students. In between we supervised the groups in individual sections at the beginning of each week to evaluate how far the work has come and what the next steps would be.
